
Three students from HfMDK Frankfurt achieved remarkable success at the 6th International Oskar Nedbal Viola Competition held in Prague.
The competition took place from October 3-6, 2024, and was open to violists of all nationalities under the age of 30. Following video applications, 15 international violists were invited to the second round.
Award Winners:
• Brian Isaacs (HfMDK student): 3rd place + B. Martinů Foundation Prize for best interpretation of B. Martinů Sonata
• Arcan İsenkul (KIA student): Pirastro Prize as 'outstanding young talent'
• Ayaka Taniguchi (KIA student): 4th place, named 'competition laureate'
The competition format included performing a viola sonata and piano piece of choice, along with Oskar Nedbal's romantic op. 18 piece in the second round. Four finalists were selected for the final round, where they performed Hoffmeister viola concertos with the Barocco sempre giovane ensemble.
Arcan İsenkul shared his thoughts about the competition: 'My parents were also there for me to support. I did not have any expectations at all, my focus was having a great time with my family. That is why, I am really grateful for them for being there with me!'
